Sister Artists
Celebrate New Book
The inspiration came in the middle of the night.
In Los Angeles, during the summer of 2024, Ruth Broyde Sharone—filmmaker, author, and composer—woke abruptly one morning at 4 a.m. and reached for her notebook. She jotted down the idea for a series of eleven short inspirational books celebrating everyday experiences: life, death, aging, parenting, marriage, divorce, and more.
Later that morning, she called her big sister in Boston, Leah Broyde Abrahams, a visual artist and memoirist, to share what she called her “cosmic download.”
“Let’s collaborate on the first book together as sister artists!” Ruth said excitedly. “I’ve written the text, and I’d like you to supply the photos. The first book is called 11 Things to Celebrate Before Breakfast.”
Leah was used to Ruth’s “cosmic downloads”—her term for sudden inspiration, which Leah affectionately considered California woo-woo—but she couldn’t resist.
The number 11 has long been regarded as a gateway to divine intuition, higher knowledge, and expanded consciousness—a belief shared by the Mayans and many other ancient cultures.
In modern times, 11:11 has taken on spiritual significance for people around the world. Often referred to as the “Angel Number,” it’s seen as a symbol of alignment, synchronicity, and spiritual awakening.
Believers interpret it as a gentle “hello” from the universe—or from God—a sign of encouragement and a reminder of our divine connection. For some, it’s also considered a sign of good luck or positive energy.

…leading you to greater awareness and a deeper appreciation of your own life.
“Let Leah’s photographs open your eyes. Let Ruth’s words open your heart. Let this book open YOUR DAY, and let the celebration begin!”
— Jack Miles, Former Editor of the LA Times Book review
“Every page of this spare, thoughtfully composed book offers readers an artful invitation - along with the necessary spaciousness - to connect deeply with that which may inspire us.”
— Leah Hager Cohen, author of To and Fro
